Dr Joyce Thompson treated my mum for stomach cancer at heartlands in 2017 and 2018. Whilst doing really well on treatment, mum took a downhill turn, what followed was a disgrace. It transpired Dr Thompson had put my mum on 240mg of codeine a day in an attempt to block up her bowels. She was experiencing no pain. She probably weighed around 6 stone at this time. The codeine made her very ill and I fully believe the ridiculously excessive levels of codeine together with immunotherapy caused the bowel perforation that killed her shortly thereafter. Dreadful woman. Medical negligence I feel.

Cancer treatment plan, communication with patient and family, accessibility for questions are all severely lacking. Joyce Thompson is nigh on impossible to get in touch with, she is the only one with no bio on heartland’s directory and no secretary, phone number or email listed. My family member has stage 4 cancer, has been in and out of hospital for falls and other debilitating incidents due to the cancer metastasizing around the spinal area. He hasn’t seen or heard from his oncologist in a long time. We are extremely disappointed in the care Dr Thompson has given as his assigned oncologist.
