Sorry about the accident. I hope your treatment goes well. There has been considerable publicity about a syndrome called " asthma airbag , " which is a respiratory condition that is ostensibly caused by the inhalation of dust from a deployed airbag . Unfortunately, much of the attention given to this disorder has been generated from lawsuits involving monetary awards to victims . Dust which manufacturers use to lubricate the airbags , is mainly composed of corn starch and talc with a minor proportion of sodium hydroxide, which quickly turns into sodium bicarbonate ( the common sodium bicarbonate in the pastry ) when exposed to air . If a person already has asthma, inhaling these compounds could trigger an attack , but is unlikely to cause problems for non- asthmatics. It is more likely that a combination of inhaled aerosolized toxins from a variety of sources while he was trapped in his vehicle. Such exposures have been linked to a condition called chemical pneumonitis, which can be a serious condition if left untreated . I have attached a couple of links that might be interesting. If you have not sought medical attention for breathing problems , see your doctor right away.
