The most common benign cause of severe headache is migraine . Migraine can feel a throbbing pain in the back of the head, around the eyes and behind them. Migraine is often accompanied by sensitivity to light , noise, odor, and nausea and vomiting. Most people with migraines prefer to lie in the dark, in a quiet room and wait for the pain to go away . , Which could take several hours. The migraine headaches should be differentiated from migraine headache . These headaches share some of the same characteristics, such as severity , pounding and squeezing, but , unlike migraines , are NOT benign - they are symptoms of a serious problem affecting the brain , brain coverings , the eyes and other cranial elements. The migraine headaches may be caused by brain aneurysms, tumors or other structural problems in the brain or skull , inflammatory conditions such as arteritis or giant cell vasculitis , break the lining of the cerebral arteries (called dissection ) or syndrome Tolosa- Hunt, to name a few cases. Headaches behind or near the eyes may cause optic neuritis , glaucoma , dental problems, sinus infections or cavernous sinus thrombosis , among many other causes that can not be ignored . The most serious causes of headaches often worsen over time , especially if not treated , and no doubt lead to a serious injury or death . It is very important that any pain again , different or unusual headache is evaluated.
