Vertigo - is the sensation of movement when you stand really - can be caused by various diseases : acute labyrinthitis or inflammation of the inner ear , usually due to a viral infection. Dizziness , nausea and vomiting associated with these symptoms respond to antihistamines . Symptoms of acute labyrinthitis usually resolve in a week or so , although you may have intermittent episodes of vertigo for several weeks. Middle ear infections are occasionally associated with acute positional vertigo . A relatively common cause for vertigo are changes in the aging inner ear . If you have ringing in the ears or are experiencing hearing loss , you may have Ménière's disease or acoustic neuroma , which are less common causes.
