The cause of migraine and how that causes the headache is still a mystery. There are 4 stages of migraine: prodrome , aura, headache and resolution phase . Remember, not all headaches are all 4 stages. Some patients only have prodromal symptoms (nausea , diarrhea , irritability , fatigue , confusion , etc.) and no headache. Some have an aura stage ( As an example , wavy lines , spots, flashing lights, flavors or odors ) and nothing else. A migraine without headache is often called " silent" migraines but in reality , patients do experience symptoms but not pain.
